Description: McCarthy elected House speaker in rowdy post-midnight vote

Kevin McCarthy of California won the position of Speaker of the House after receiving a majority of the votes cast.

The California congressman garnered the support of fellow Republicans on Friday as he pumped out cheers in the House of Representatives.

He is now considered the Democratic Representative for the next two years.

McCarthy got 216 votes. While the Democratic candidate has received only 108 votes. Thus, McCarthy got twice the votes.
